Family history does not rely solely on records of births, marriages and deaths, and one of the resources that is often underused, or ignored altogether, is maps. Old maps are historical records just as much as rate books or parish registers, and they deserve similar attention. You may have found a wonderful verbal description of the place where an ancestor lived or worked, but a map can instantly bring that portrayal to life and might help to pinpoint photographs.
